The teenage drivers of two stolen vehicles have been arrested after allegedly blocking an ambulance from responding to an emergency Sunday, Saint John police say.

At around 4:45 a.m., an ambulance travelling west on Route 1 near the Rothesay exit was stopped from passing because two vehicles blocked both lanes, police said in a news release Monday.

Police found the two vehicles in a parking lot in the Crown Street area of Saint John and later determined they’d been stolen.

One of the vehicles was unoccupied, but the two drivers attempted to flee in the other vehicle and collided with a police car, the release said.

Both of the vehicle’s male occupants, one 15 and the other 18, were arrested on charges that included dangerous operation of motor vehicles.

No one was injured during the incident, the release said.

Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca said he couldn’t provide more details about the incident because both accused were expected to appear in court later.
