Canada’s Cam Alexander ruled out for alpine ski worlds

The Canadian men’s alpine ski team will be down a member for the remainder of the world championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria.

Alpine Canada announced on Friday that Cam Alexander has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury during his second downhill training run on Thursday.

Alexander landed awkwardly after getting compressed coming over a roller on the upper part of the course.

The skier managed to regain his balance and skied down to the finish. Experiencing pain in his knee, he was examined by the Canadian team doctor and medical staff at a local hospital. 

Following the exam, it was determined that Alexander will not compete at the world championships, and will be returning to Canada for further evaluation by team medical specialists to determine the next course of action.

The North Vancouver, B.C., native won downhill bronze at the worlds two years ago.
