
Highway 3 has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic east of Creston, B.C., after a serious crash sent four people to hospital.
RCMP said the collision happened around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 3, roughly one kilometre east of Canyon-Lister Road. The highway was closed for nearly 17 hours, briefly reopening to single-lane traffic before being shut down again in the evening.
DriveBC that the section between Canyon-Lister Road and Lakeview Arrow Creek Road is open to single-lane alternating traffic.
No detour was available for several hours after the crash. DriveBC says a detour was later made available for light vehicles via Lakeview Arrow Creek Road, five kilometres east of Creston, but commercial vehicles are not permitted.
B.C. Emergency Health Services says four people were injured in the crash. One patient was flown to hospital in serious condition by STARS ambulance.
“Three patients were transported by ground ambulance to hospital in serious condition. They were subsequently transported by air ambulance for further care,” said Brian Twaites, a paramedic public information officer.
Paramedics responded to the scene with five ambulances, a paramedic response unit, and three air ambulances.
Details on the number of vehicles involved or the cause of the crash have not been released.
