Man denies plot to sabotage Boris Johnson’s party

A man accused of planning to use spray paint and superglue to vandalise Boris Johnson’s wedding party venue will face trial later this year.

Tim Speers, 39, is alleged to have been found with spray paint, super glue and red boiler suits at the Daylesford Estate in Gloucestershire on 29 July 2022.

At a short hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday, Mr Speers pleaded not guilty to having items with intend to damage property.

After entering his pleas, he told Judge Christopher Hehir: “I want to be at trial. I can’t wait.”

The former prime minister and Carrie Johnson were married in a private ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in May 2021.

They hosted their wedding celebrations at Daylesford House on 30 July the following year, setting up marquees in the grounds.

Speers, of Fairfield Road, Bude, Cornwall, is also charged with one count of possession of a class B drug, cannabis, and a class C drug, Etizolam, which he also denies.

He was released on unconditional bail until his trial on 7 September 2026.
