A man died in a home invasion Thursday northwest of Moncton, the New Brunswick RCMP said, hours after issuing an emergency alert related to the incident.

Three individuals forcibly got into a residence on Isaiah Road in Berry Mills occupied by a man and a woman, police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

“An alteration occurred, resulting in the fatality of an unidentified man,” the release said.

The man and woman who lived in the house were both in their 30s, said police, who provided no other details about them.

The release said Caledonia Region RCMP were dispatched to the home just before 6 a.m. Two intruders had already left the scene.

At about 7:30 a.m., RCMP issued an alert, warning the public of two armed men they believed were heading toward Edmundston. A man named in the original alert is no longer considered a suspect.

Police continue to look for two pickup trucks — a black 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 and a light-coloured Ford F150 — but because they believe the home invasion was a targeted crime, they say there is no longer a risk to the public.

While the emergency alert has ended, the RCMP said anyone who was in the area Thursday morning with video footage can contact them.
