A fire that completely destroyed a smokehouse Friday near Cap-Pelé, in southeastern New Brunswick, was accidental, says the Office of the Fire Marshal.

It was the second smokehouse owned by Elphège & Norbert LeBlanc Ltd. that burned down in less than a year.

The fire broke out Friday afternoon and it was difficult to get control of due to strong winds, Mathieu LeBlanc, platoon chief, said.

There were about 40 firefighters on site to fight the blaze.

Last July, a smokehouse fire owned by the same company saw three men face charges in relation to the incident.

Two of those men were set to face trial in January, but the Crown withdrew those charges in December.
