Permanent daylight time would mean people would get less sleep and be more fatigued during the day, Juda says.

“And we know that sleep is really important for our productivity and for our well-being, for our mood. So … we would expect health consequences, accidents for example, through fatigue.”

So which parts of the country would win and lose under permanent standard time? Winters would stay the same, but some places would be in for some very early sunrises in mid to late June.

In the three biggest cities, the earliest summer sunrise would shift between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. In places such as Gaspé and Sept Iles, Que., Fort McMurray, Alta., and Prince George, B.C., sunrise would be between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
